Service items

Services describe what kind of work you do on a project, each with its own rate. A web project might have "Development" at $120/hr, "Design" at $95/hr, and "Content" billed per word. When you tag time entries with a service, invoices group and price them accordingly.

Adding a service

Open the project, go to the Billing tab, expand Services, and click Add Service:

  • Name (required) — e.g. "Development".
  • Description — optional.
  • Rate — the price for this service.
  • Rate Type — how the rate is applied: Flat Fee, Per Hour (the default), Per Day, Per Item, or Per Word.
  • Default service — a toggle. The default service is pre-selected whenever you log time to this project.

Using services on entries

Once a project has services, the entry form shows a Service dropdown whenever that project is selected. The default service is marked "(default)" and picked automatically; switch it per entry as needed.

You can also assign a service to many entries at once from the Entries page — enter selection mode, tick the entries, and use the Service button. All selected entries have to belong to the same project, since services are project-specific.

Services on invoices

On an invoice, time entries are grouped first by project and then by service, so a client sees "Design — 6h @ $95" as its own block rather than a jumble of undifferentiated hours. Entries without a service fall back to the project's hourly rate (or the client's default rate if the project doesn't set one).
